Winter Sun

Winter Sun, a short film of a sunrise swim in late December, was shown during the recording of a live podcast at The Whale Theatre in Greystones, Co. Wicklow. The podcast was part of the Social Fabric series created by Andrea Splendori. Andrea asked me to contribute some visuals as the theme of the podcast was "Is Sea Swimming the new Kale?", which of course it is.

We met for a coffee a few weeks before the recording to discuss the visuals and, serendipitously, seated at the next table was musician and broadcaster Fiachna Ó Braonáin of the Hothouse Flowers (and also a sea swimmer). Andrea soon reeled Fiachna in and he willingly agreed to compose original music for the film, which he and Clare Sands then recorded. It was a fantastic collaboration, images and music echoing and resonating.

The live podcast featured author Ruth Fitzmaurice, Dave and Steve Flynn of The Happy Pear, channel swimmer Dee Newell and marine biologist Susan Steele - all of whom have previously appeared individually on https://socialfabric.ie
